Joint Account Holder Addition Success with Chase

I asked one of my credit card companies, Chase, to add my husband on as a joint account holder.  After all of the piggybacking reforms coming our way, courtesy of Fair Isaac, I wanted to make sure his sound credit remained that way.

To add him, I logged into my Chase account and emailed them asking how I would do that.  They replied that they would send us an application.

The application arrived about a week later.  It was rather primitive, looking like it was printed off of a low-end laser printer and contained no company logo or much of anything identifying what it was.  If I wasn’t expecting this letter, I’d think it was a scam.  It asked the basic information you’d expect to find on an application for credit because that’s exactly what it was, an application for credit.  My husband, with my permission, was applying to be a joint account holder on my credit card and Chase could decide whether to grant our request or deny it.  One thing I was disappointed in was that the full account number was on the application.  I was expecting that to be hidden and it to contain a reference number or bar code for Chase to identify which account it was in reference to.  No such luck.  Oh, how do I hate sending anything via USPS mail with that much personal information.

About a week and a half later, we received a credit card for the hubby and then separately, a letter thanking me for wanting to “share” my wonderful credit card with my new joint account holder.

It was a rather painless experience, even if not all that efficient.

Please don’t forget to follow up on any authorized users you have on your credit cards who might take a FICO hit when Fair Isaac no longer takes into account the history on those accounts.  It’s definitely something you don’t want to wait until the last minute to do.
